G. Albert Lansburgh (1876-1969), educated at L'Ecole des Beaux Arts, began a practice with architect Bernard J. Joseph in San Francisco in 1906, immediately after the earthquake. He established his own practice in 1908, and at the height of his career ran offices out of San Francisco, Los Angeles, and New York. John Eberson attended the University of Vienna prior to immigrating in 1901 to the United States, where he was initially employed as a stage designer and painter. In 1909, he established an independent office.
